What odes it mean to ‘humble oneself’? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it is, “to do or say something which shows that one knows one has been wrong, has behaved with too much pride, etc.” Just this simple act, alone, is difficult for people to do. Being humble requires a person to admit their own wrongs, but learning from ones mistakes allows them to grow. Therefore, the logo of shushing lips creates a visual representation of that ideal.
Per request from author Lydia T. Caldwell, a previous design from 2017 of her original H.U.S.H. logo would have a more feminine approach. What was previously a simple drawing of a faceless person with H.U.S.H. below would be changed to reflect Mrs. Caldwell’s vision. Her vision is that of an image that represents women’s improvement as individuals through humility and self-growth. As a result, other images, such as the Sisters of Sankofa logo, further showcase women’s empowerment.
The logo design is of another silhouette of a woman with her index finger over her lips in a shushing motion. The outline of the woman is in a pen vector trace of a stock image. The lines are in a darker shade of gray with the woman’s mouth fully black. Additionally, the lines used to connect together are much more bold to allow the image to stand out more. However, with the woman’s fingers, the lines do not fully connect to add more effect to the shadows separating each. The woman’s fingernails and lips are various shades of red, with the H.U.S.H. acronym in the same red and in Anydore font.
